1) Make sure that all your payments are getting made on time
2) Pay more than the minimum payments on your credit cards to try to alleviate some debt
3) If you have credit cards, the balances on the cards should be brought down from the max rate as much as possible, on all cards (don’t horde all the debt onto one card, how close you are to your credit max is just as important as how much debt you have all around)
4) Get your free annual credit report at https://www.annualcreditreport.com and review it carefully. Make sure that any credit cards you requested closure on are actually noted properly (sometimes the report might say that it was charged off or closed by the bank, although you requested the closure). Get any errors corrected ASAP

Repairing credit can take a while, so be patient.
