You have a long way to go to get a home loan if your score now is 535.
Start with the basics. Pull your credit report for free at http://www.annualcreditreport.com and find out what is on there that is so bad. If there are debts on there that you legitimately owe and can now afford to pay, pay them off. That will start to help.
If you have any debts right now that you are not making your payment in full and on time, then stop it. Pay your bills on time to get the biggest boost. If you can’t pay in full, at least pay the minimum on time, every month..
If your debts are so old that they have dropped off your report, then you need ot start to build new credit up. Try to get a small loan from a credit union or local bank, and pay that back religiously.
If you have a friend or family member who trusts you see if you can get them to make you an "authorized user" on one of their accounts to help build up your score.
