Forget those referrals to sites that charge you for what you can do for free and on your own. There are ways to improve ones credit score and there is a place for all the free resources you need.
Here are some links to the FTC and to FICO to help you out.

This one is for credit repair

Hope these help answer your question.
P.S. if anybody says to simply dispute items and they will go away, that is false, only incorrect entries can be disputed. And watch out for scams that charge you money, you can use that money to pay down your debts instead.

Here is what I did…I got a secure credit card (defined as sending an amount of money 500$ in may case) to a credit card company and they issue you a secure credit card with a limit equal to your deposit. These deposits are put into a CD that gains interest. At the end of a predetermined time (18 months for me) you get a regular credit card, and your money back with interest. Another thing you can do is apply for signature loans, when you get them wait about a week and take 1/2 and use it you make a payment, then spread out the remainder over the next few months until paid off. You will be surprised at how quickly you rebuild your credit.

I would start with simple credit repair. It is relatively easy and affordable -painless if you let professionals assist you. After they improve your score by removing negatives and errors, there are other options to further boost your score. Good luck.
