I’m looking to improve my credit score. I just checked my credit report and apparently have a small account open with a department store. I have always had a 0 balance on this card, since 2002. Is it more beneficial to me to close this account or leave it open? If I do close it can I write to the card company and have them take this negative reflection off my credit?

The negatives usually last from five to seven years after the account is closed. If it is not closed, send a letter asking them to close it. Only time heals credit.
