So seniors get paid social security this time but there is a "super comittee" that will look into slashing medicare and social security. Makes sense.

As President, my plan would have produced a budget that was cut, capped and balanced – not one that opens the door to higher taxes.

Because they know the debt ceiling has to be raised. Raising the debt ceiling isn't a debate. They knew it had to be raised all along and they were just playing politics.

Your only 14, that is an impressive question for a 14 year old.

Obama is making the republicans look bad in this whole debate, americans seem to want a government that can work together. Republicans are trying to do the right thing but a man can only take so much criticism from our leader. I don't remember bush EVER saying anything like, "democrats need to sit in the back of the bus". I don't remember ANY president ever talking about the other party like that, not Clinton, Bush, or Reagan. I'm sorry for your future but I think republicans would do better to just sit this crap out, just let the dens do whatever they want and don't stand in the way, then in 2012, hope for a good election year.

The President and his Admin has already reversed the numbers in TRILLIONS given them in Jan 09. President Obama's first term isn't over for another year and a half ... and don't forget how many states are calling for a re-CALL since November's elections won on false pretenses ...

Young man you need to check your brain before you write this nonsense or else as you have done here you have shown you don't know what you are taking about, the great St. Ronald the conservative Savior raised the debt limit 18 time during his administration and he is looked up to as some kind of godly figure that could do no wrong and our previous President did it 9 times but all of a sudden it wrong because it is a democrat and not one of your boys that young man is hypocritical at the max

A few facts for you, in no particular order:

The Senate and House split legislative responsibilities, while the President signs bills. There will be no second Reagan Revolution with the Democratic Party controlling two of those three elements.

Compromise is not a bad thing. It happens all the time in politics. The Republicans had a chance to call Obama out on his promise to make a large deal, one that would have had a 3 to 1 ratio of spending cuts to tax hikes. They passed on it. Oh well, an opportunity lost.

Circumstances change. A balanced budget amendment would be avoided whenever necessary whenever it struck the whim of the Congress at the moment. It would have to have some sort of clause that would include a suspension of the rule during a national emergency. But what's that? Anything Congress says it is. Remember, it is their job to say that things are in a crisis and that we need immediate action. Otherwise, what do Congressmen do?

Remember in 2008, when the economy tanked? All you heard about was jobs, jobs, jobs. That's how the stimulus bill passed. It obviously had an effect on unemployment -- no matter how high it, it would be worse without, no matter what some think -- so now the deficit is the story of the day. Both sides have a horrible track record on this issue, but threatening to not lift the debt ceiling is rather irresponsible. It's always been a bookkeeping measure in the past, and to fool with the chance of default is insanity.

I appreciate your interest and concerns, and I share many of them. But there are many ways to a better country, not just one.

First, Republicans aren't caving. There is no way that Obama will get tax hikes, especially with the new GOP freshmen in the house that ran on the basis of not allowing tax hikes.

Second, McConnell's plan comes with spending cuts but is mainly a blame-game plan. He's counting on the fact that if Obama raises the debt ceiling against a majority of the American people's will, then all the blame for the continuous tanking of the economy will be on Obama, destroying his chances for re-election.

I don't agree with McConnell because I think the economy should be the number one issue, not focusing blame, even though it's Obama's fault that he broke his promise of reducing the nation's debt in half by the end of his first term (instead he increased it by 40%).

However, I applaud you for taking an interest in politics at age 14.

Look kid

you don't get to be Mitch McConnell, unless you're a shrewd, crafty, sophisticated player

and if its such a good deal for Obama, why doesn't he take it

because the Republicans are toying with Obama, much like a cat toys with a mouse, before killing it

Mitch has been a DC power broker for 40 years who clawed his way to the top - Obama is an affirmative action wanabe who is way, way, way, out of his league
